Original date: December 2014
It is early 2014. I’ve been living in Croydon, just south of London, UK for a bit more than half a year. The trains that take me to work, further south of London, all terminate in Brighton but I’ve not yet gone there until now.
Seeing the city, seeing the people, walking along Brighton Beach and hearing for the first time the sound of the rocks being swept around by the big waves I realized that I wanted to move there. And so I did.
I made this little artwork featuring an overlay based on a photo I took of the burnt-down husk of the West Pier. The background is meant to resemble a long-exposure photo of a starry sky. The blue glow was blended in using a glsl fragment shader.
I had it professionally printed. Meant for it to be a Christmas gift, but due to time constraints it did not arrive in time. I ended up keeping it for myself. It still adorns my living room wall.
I don’t miss living in the UK but I do miss living in Brighton.
