Glass Array 2
2025-04-28

Original date 2024-11-25.

I made this as a followup to Glass Array, this time with a different color scheme and some actual light fixtures and wires to make it seem like it is an actual physical art installation.

Still, the project itself was somewhat tainted by negative feelings about not being able to render this using my nice GPU due to some kind of issue causing Blender to crash if I tried to use Cycles with shaders using special features like transmission. As much as I enjoy using blender, I’m really bummed out if I’m limited to slowly render even simple scenes like this on my CPU with fans set to takeoff thrust. So I did not spend as much time as I usually do to tweak the final details to my liking because of how much time it would take to see the results of those tweaks.

Luckily, this issue was later fixed in the subsequent Blender version. I’m very grateful for the work that is put into all these open source projects that I depend on for my hobbies.

Staying at the bleeding edge of software means there will sometimes be blood.
